Within the framework of the St. Petersburg Legal Forum Mr. Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, met Mr. Drazen Bosnjakovic, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Croatia

Today, on May 16, 2019, within the framework of the St. Petersburg Legal Forum, a meeting was held between Mr. Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, and Mr. Drazen Bosnjakovic, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Croatia.

The event was also attended by Mr. Alexey Zakharov, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Mr. Juro Martinovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia, Sedina Dubravcic, Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Croatia, superiors of the divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and representatives of the Croatian delegation.

Mr. Yury Chayka noted that the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, together with Croatian colleagues, was actively involved in the work of the International Association of Prosecutors.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation recalled that the first regional representative office of the International Association of Prosecutors was located in the complex of historical buildings in which the meeting of delegations took place. The delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Croatia attended the opening ceremony in November 2017.

Mr. Yury Chayka noted that the contacts with Croatian colleagues contributed to addressing the tasks in ensuring the rule of law, protecting the rights of citizens, the interests of the society and the state, and bringing culprits to justice.

Mr. Yury Chayka also brought to the attention of those in attendance to the prompt implementation of the arrangement on signing the Cooperation Agreement between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia, made during a meeting in Zagreb in 2018.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed confidence that the conclusion thereof would be an important step in strengthening the Russian-Croatian interdepartmental cooperation aimed at consolidating efforts in combating organized crime, new challenges and threats, which no state can cope with alone.

The practical implementation of the Agreement would contribute to increasing the effectiveness of interaction between the Russian and Croatian parties in the field of criminal proceedings, in particular with regard to the issues of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

In conclusion Mr. Yury Chayka expressed confidence that the cooperation with the Croatian colleagues would further evolve constructively.
