Today on 17 October 2016 meeting of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Yuri Chaika with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades was held.
Participants of the meeting discussed matters of cooperation in the sphere of extradition for bringing to criminal liability, as well as possibilities for further development of cooperation in the sphere of rendering legal assistance in criminal matters and development of bilateral relations.
Also in the framework of the meeting agreement was reached to extradite to Cyprus from the Russian Federation national of Ukraine who is accused on the Island of committing of a number of crimes.
After it the delegation of Russian prosecutors headed by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Yuri Chaika met with the Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Costas Clerides.
Heads of supervision authorities discussed different matters of cooperation in the legal sphere and in the sphere of combating international crime. Mr. Yuri Chaika noted that it is necessary to avoid politicizing issues connected with combating local and international crime.
Other matters of developing of bilateral cooperation were discussed in the course of meeting.
Parties positively assessed cooperation in the law-enforcement sphere between the two states and came to an agreement to draft and sign new Memorandum on cooperation.
This document may be signed at the beginning of next year in framework of visit of the Cyprus delegation to Russia.
