On 24-26 May 2016, a regular meeting was held of the Permanent Working Group of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the French Republic on cooperation in criminal matters.
The French delegation was headed by the Director of the Department for Penal Matters and Pardons of the Ministry of Justice M. Robert Gelli.
The parties discussed the issues of mutual legal assistance and extradition in concrete criminal matters. The important agreements have been reached, including on returning from France the property acquired with the funds stolen in Russia.
The Russian and French colleagues exchanged experience on combating terrorism, countering youth radicalization, as well as participation of French and Russian citizens in terrorist and extremist organizations, including abroad. The issues of corruption were addressed, including with regard to preventing the conflict of interests in procurement for state and municipal needs. The parties updated each other on the latest developments in the legislation of Russia and France and the fight against terrorism and corruption.
The French delegation was received by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika who stressed the importance of the Russian-French cooperation which has a rich and long history, including in crime combating.
The Head of the French delegation, on behalf of the Minister of Justice of France Jean-Jacques Urvoas, invited the Prosecutor General of Russia to take part in the International Conference on Combating Corruption to be held in Paris in June.
