The first working meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic was held in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation in the framework of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Italian Republic signed in July 2012 by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and the Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic Paola Severino.
During the meeting the discussion was focused on the state of cooperation in criminal matters, the existing problems and the ways to resolve them. The participants were introduced to the specific features of the Russian and Italian legislation, both in the area of extradition and legal assistance, exchanged views on raising the efficiency and effectiveness of the cooperation.
The meeting resulted in the agreements on expeditious exchange of information in criminal proceedings, measures to reduce the time of consideration of requests for legal assistance, arrangements for search of the persons who are absconding from criminal prosecution in Italy, and the detention of the persons requested for extradition.
With regard to certain criminal matters it was agreed that the Italian competent authorities would execute the Russian requests for legal assistance and extradition more rapidly.
