Today, on December 8, 2015, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Macedonia Marko Zvrlevski.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Gennady Lopatin, First Deputy of the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Macedonia Lilyana Spasoska, as well as heads of departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
Welcoming the guests, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation noted the importance of strengthening and further development of mutual cooperation between the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of both states in protecting the rights of citizens, interests of society and the state based both on national legislation and international treaties.
In turn, Mr. Zvrlevski thanked Mr. Chayka for the reception and noted the importance of development of international relations. He stressed out that the experience of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation in combating corruption, extremism and terrorism, as well as in other spheres is of a great interest to the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Macedonia.
Mr. Zvrlevski briefed the participants on the structure, functions and powers of the prosecutorial bodies of the Republic of Macedonia.
During the meeting, the heads of departments signed an Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Macedonia.
The document provides for an interaction in various forms on a wide range of issues related to the competence of Public Prosecutor’s Offices of both states, such as combating organized crime, terrorism, corruption, as well as cooperation in extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
Mr. Chayka expressed confidence that the practical implementation of the agreement would bring the cooperation of Public Prosecutor’s Offices of both states to a qualitatively new level and would contribute to developing a coordinated approach to the challenges faced by prosecutors.
He also said that the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Macedonia had a potential for development of cooperation at multilateral and international forums, for example, within the framework of the Council of Europe and the International Association of Prosecutors.
In conclusion, the parties expressed their firm commitment to the further development of interagency cooperation.
