Today, on February 3, 2015, Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation hosted the meeting of the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev and the First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Hai Phong Nguyen.
The meeting was attended by heads of departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Welcoming the Vietnamese counterparts, Mr. Zvyagintsev said that recent years were characterized by progressive development of interaction between the Prosecutor’s Offices of Russia and Vietnam, which was largely due to the signing in 2007 of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He noted that as part of its implementation, a number of bilateral meetings have been conducted at the management level and at the expert level, as well as the group of prosecutors from Vietnam have passed advanced training program at the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation told that within the framework of the intergovernmental program of cooperation, prosecutors from Russia and Vietnam have shared their experiences of combating corruption, supervising the execution of the legislation during the preliminary investigation, as well as organization of personnel work.
In his speech, he noted with satisfaction that the experience of Russian prosecutors in ensuring the rule of law, including the protection of the rights of citizens, has also been in demand among other agencies of Vietnam, which carried out similar tasks within their competence.
He noted that the undoubtedly important role was played by the Russian-Vietnamese contacts "on the sidelines" of international forums, including the annual conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.
In turn, Mr. Hai Phong Nguyen thanked Mr. Zvyagintsev for the reception and informed on the structure and functions of prosecutorial bodies of the Republic of Vietnam.
The First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam highly appreciated the level of cooperation between the supervisory agencies of both states. He noted that all requests for legal assistance and on extradition, which were sent to Russia by the competent authorities of Vietnam, have been successfully performed.
Mr. Hai Phong Nguyen stressed out that all activities planned by the Program of Cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Offices of Russia and Vietnam have been successfully executed.
Head of the delegation of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate also said that in the future it would be required to develop joint efforts in the fight against crime, to continue exchange of experience in this field, as well as to seek new ways and forms of cooperation.
Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Zvyagintsev has expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to the sustained development of cooperation between both states in the field of protection of human rights and combating transnational organized crime, including corruption.
Following the talks, it was decided to develop a new Program of Cooperation for the upcoming years, providing for the holding of workshops, round tables and working meetings to exchange experience with prosecutors from both states on supervising observance of the rights and freedoms of citizens, defending interests of the state and society, as well as maintaining law and order.
