8th Annual Conference and General Meeting of International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities Held in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg hosted the 8th Annual Conference and the General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.

The events of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities were attended by more than 200 representatives from 62 countries (Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, the CIS, as well as heads and members of international organizations, in particular, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Association of Prosecutors, the European Bureau for Combating Fraud, the Secretariat of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities, the United Nations Development Programme, the International Academy against Corruption, the Arab Organization of Parliamentarians against Corruption, and Transparency International).

On behalf of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the event was attended by the Head of the Department for Supervision over Enforcement of Anti-Corruption Legislation, member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities Yury Semin and the Prosecutor of the said department Andrey Onufrienko.

The event was dedicated to the issues related to the prevention of corruption. Another important topic of the conference was anti-corruption education of the population.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Semin spoke on the topic "Experience of the Russian Federation in the Fight against Corruption". He highlighted cutting-edge anti-corruption innovations in the legislation of the Russian Federation, as well as experience of international cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation in combating corruption, focusing on the challenges and conflicts arising in connection with the implementation of major international conventions.

During the conference, Mr. Semin held bilateral meetings with the heads of delegations and representatives of anti-corruption authorities of Iran and Egypt, following which the parties reached agreement on promoting bilateral cooperation in the fight against corruption.

Following the results of the Annual Conference and the General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities, the participants in the event adopted the St. Petersburg Declaration of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities dedicated to combating corruption, approved the Attorney General of the State of Qatar Ali Fetais Almari as acting President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities, re-elected two members of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities and decided to hold the 9th Annual Conference and the General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities in Beijing (China) in May, 2016.
