Russian Federation and Kazakhstan to Hold Scientific and Practical Workshop on Cross-Border Cooperation in Combating Crime

Today, on 30 October 2015, the two-day Russian-Kazakhstan Scientific and Practical Workshop completed its work on topical issues of cooperation of the cross-border prosecutor’s offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation in the field of combating crime that was hosted by the city of Pavlodar of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Russian delegation was headed by the First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Buksman. The Kazakh party was represented by the First Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Iogan Merkel.

The event was attended by senior officials of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and a number of divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In the process of exchanging experience the participants discussed topical issues of cross-border cooperation between the law enforcement authorities of Kazakhstan and Russia in the field of combating crime, as well as organization of cooperation in combating illegal migration and drug trafficking.

There was particular interest concerning the issues related to collaboration of the competent authorities of the parties in the fight against extremism, terrorism and illicit arms trafficking.

In addition, the workshop participants discussed the implementation of certain provisions of the Minsk Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations.

The parties discussed various aspects of cooperation between the prosecutor’s offices of the states in the field of combating proliferation of destructive religious organizations in the border regions, which activity is prohibited.

Attendees also discussed the issues of detection and suppression of smuggling, environmental crime, including poaching.

In conclusion, the workshop participants expressed confidence that the completed meeting would contribute to improving the performance of prosecutor’s offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of combating crime, protection of rights and freedoms.
