Today, on September 17, 2015, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev, who has been a member of the IAP Executive Committee for the last 6 years, was elected by consensusat the General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) as the IAP Vice-President of the European countries.
IAP is an international organization that brings together 250 thousand prosecutors from nearly 150 countries in the world. This non-political and non-governmental organization was established in June, 1995 at the UN Office in Vienna. The main reason that led to its establishment has been the rapid growth of transnational crime, in particular illicit drug trafficking and laundering of proceeds of crime. There was a necessityfor a more timely and effective mutual assistance, asset tracking and other measures of international cooperation between prosecutors.
The Committee is the governing body of the Association and considers critical issues of its activities.
The Senate is another IAP body, which is composed of the former members of the Executive Committee, including the ProsecutorGeneral of the Russian Federation YuryChayka, who stood at the origins of the Association in 1995.
The meeting participants welcomed the initiative to hold the 7th IAP Regional Conference in Sochi in November this year for the states of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia on the topic ‘Fight against Terrorism and Violent Extremism’.
On the sidelines of the 20thAnnual IPA Conference, the Russian delegation held more than 30 meetings with its foreign partners, discussing the current issues of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats, including in the investigation of specific criminal cases.
