Delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation headed by Yury Chayka participated in the opening ceremony of the 20th Annual Conference and the General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors

Today, on 14 September 2015 in Zurich (the Swiss Confederation), the Prosecutor General of Switzerland Michael Lauber and the President of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Gerhard Jarosch solemnly opened the IAP meeting of the 20th Annual Conference and the General Meeting on the following topic: ‘International Cooperation in the Fight Against White Collar Crime, Corruption and Laundering of Proceeds of Crime: Certain Issues and Their Solutions’.

Delegations of prosecutors from more than 100 countries attended the Conference, including the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation headed by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka.

Welcoming the participants of the Conference the Prosecutor General of Switzerland Michael Lauber highlighted a number of problematic issues in the work of prosecutors to be considered in the coming days.

The IAP President Gerhard Jarosch thanked the Prosecutor General’s Office of Switzerland for hosting the event which is so important for all the prosecutorial community, and wished successful and fruitful communication to the participants. He also urged the present prosecutors general to sign a special IAP statement for physical protection of prosecutors and members of their families.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Chayka welcomed the participants and made a presentation on the main topic of the Conference.

We offer to your attention the text of the speech of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Chayka at the opening ceremony of the meeting.

Presentations were also made by the Attorney General of the United States of America Loretta Lynch, the Director of Public Prosecutions of England and Wales Alison Saunders and the Director of the Criminal Affairs and Pardons Division of the French Ministry of Justice Robert Gelli.

In addition to thematic presentations workshops will be presented on the Conference, including on topics of the investigation and prosecution of cases of bribery and fraud, as well as the military, tax and environmental crimes.

During the Conference the participants will exchange experience on such a delicate issue as combating economic crime, which in modern conditions has become cross-border in nature.

The Russian delegation on the sidelines of the forum will discuss with its colleagues the issues of cybercrime, including those related to the decentralized electronic currency ‘Bitcoin’, financing of criminal activities and terrorism, issues of illicit trafficking of drug precursors, interaction with the so-called offshore zones, combating corruption, and laundering of proceeds of crime.
