Astana hosts the 25th meeting of the Coordination Council of the Prosecutors General of the CIS Member States

Today, August 27, 2015, Astana (the Republic of Kazakhstan) hosted the 25th meeting of the Coordination Council of the Prosecutors General of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CCPG CIS) as part of the event programme dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of this organization.

The forum was chaired by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation – the Chairman of CCPG CIS Yury Chayka, who headed the Russian delegation.

The event was attended by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbayev, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk, the Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic Indira Joldubayeva, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan Yusuf Ahmadzod, the First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rustam Sabir oglu Usubov, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova Yury Garaba, the Executive Secretary of CCPG Leonid Yermolayev, and the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev.

For the first time, the meeting of CCPG CIS was attended by the Prosecutors General of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as India and Afghanistan as observers.

Opening the meeting, the Chairman of CCPG CIS Mr Chayka expressed gratitude to the organizers for the warm and friendly welcome, and noted that despite the anniversary meeting, the agenda included a wide range of topical issues of mutual interest related to improving the tools of cooperation.

The participants shared their prosecutorial experience in countering corruption, and focused on improving criminal legislation by applying the standards of the UN Convention against Corruption.

In addition, the parties discussed issues on combating crime, illicit drug trafficking, countering extremist and terrorist manifestations, discussed measures of prosecutorial supervision of legal order and law enforcement in transport, and exchanged working experience in citizen engagement in extremist organizations and their submission to the combat area.

An analytical report and summary report Information on the state of crime, investigation and prosecution activities, as well as practice on the implementation of international treaties in the fight against crime was also approved in the CIS Member States in 2014.

The meeting participants reviewed other current issues, and made a number of decisions aimed at developing interagency collaboration.

By the decision of CCPG CIS, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka was newly elected as Chairman of CCPG CIS.

Summing up the outcome of the event, Mr Chayka thanked the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the excellent organization of the meeting and all its participants for their active and fruitful work.

He expressed confidence that the members of CCPG CIS, in collaboration with the Executive Committee and Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, would continue their efforts for searching new forms and methods of their activities to strengthen the rule of law in the Member States of the Commonwealth.

The next meeting of CCPG CIS will be held in Minsk (the Republic of Belarus) in 2016.
