Meeting between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka with the Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives Muhutaz Muhusin

Today, on March 11, 2015, at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation the meeting between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives Muhutaz Muhusin was held.

The delegation is in Moscow at the invitation of Yury Chayka, who visited the Republic of the Maldives in November 2014 as the First Head of the Russian law enforcement agencies.

The meeting was attended by heads of divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Maldives.

Welcoming the guests, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation noted that the signing of the Interagency Cooperation Agreement last year laid the foundation for development of bilateral cooperation in the legal sphere.

Yury Chayka also noted that the Cooperation Agreement between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Maldives developed by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation will also contribute to protection of human rights and freedoms, interests of the society, and he called for its signature in the current year.

During the meeting the participants expressed interest in carrying out activities on cooperation in criminal matters as well as on protection of human rights and public interests outside the criminal law sphere.

The Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives Muhutaz Muhusin thanked the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for invitation and warm hospitality. He said that Russia is the first country with which the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Maldives signed the Interagency Cooperation Agreement. Muhusin Muhutaz also noted that the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Maldives need help from Russian colleagues especially in the area of personnel training and exchange of experience.

The Attorney General of the Republic of Maldives said that Russian prosecutors had extensive experience in dealing with such crimes as money laundering, cybercrime and others.

The meeting participants expressed confidence that the dialogue will contribute to the progressive development of cooperation between the two states in the field of human rights protection and transnational organized crime prevention.
