On November 25-28, 2014 in Havana, Republic of Cuba XII International Meeting on Criminal Law was held.
In a total of about two hundred delegates from 23 countries, including the Russian Federation, participated in the legal forum, which was held in the Palace of Congresses in the capital under the auspices of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Cuba.
In accordance with the request of the Prosecutor General of Russia Yury Chayka the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Ponomarev participated in the work of delegation of our country, who delivered the report on the the Russian prosecution authorities on protection of the rights and interests of minors.
In his speech, he informed in detail the participants of the meeting on implementing of Russian state policy of supporting family, motherhood and childhood, about the current legislative framework that regulates the relevant relationships.
In addition to the designation of the overall structure and competence of the agencies responsible to implement measures to defend the rights and interests of children, special attention in the report was paid to a detailed analysis of place and role in this important work of the Russian prosecution authorities, as a government body with a special status, directly overseeing compliance with the legitimacy and coordination of the crime prevention.
After having exposed the key points that characterize the essence of the functions exercised by the prosecutors in the field of protection of the rights of minors, Yury Ponomarev told about priorities in supervisory activities, as well as about current issues that raise in domestic law enforcement practice.
The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation concluded by gratituding the Cuban colleagues and other participants for the opportunity of joint discussion of problems and by expressing hope for further useful international cooperation in the legal sphere.
The history of international meetings EICP, which is one of the most respected and prestigious venues for discussing legal issues in Latin America, has more than two decades (since 1992). Forums, which the heads of prosecution authorities and other law enforcement agencies in the Latin American region, as well as leading experts in the field of jurisprudence, attend, are held every two years.
