Today, on August 28, 2014, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika held a working meeting with President of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Gerhard Jarosch in Moscow. The IAP was established in June 1995 at the United Nations offices in Vienna. It was formally inaugurated in September 1996 at its first General Meeting of the Association in Budapest. IAP is a non-governmental and nonpolitical organization. It is the first and the only international association of prosecutors. It has over 180 organizational members, including prosecutorial associations, services and law enforcement authorities. Along with its individual participants it represents over 250, 000 prosecutors from over 148 countries.
The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev attended the meeting as well. During the meeting they discussed the most urgent matters of prosecutorial activity. Gerhard Jarosch noted the high level of the Baykal International Prosecutors Conference organization, which was held on August 26-27 2014 in Irkutsk. Yury Chaika and Gerhard Jarosch had a detailed discussion of the matters of further cooperation between the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and IAP, specified the Program of Action for the nearest future. In his turn, Gerhard Jarosch emphasized that the prosecutorial systems of the entire international community have to act in legal unity in the light of strengthening efforts, aimed at global challenges and threats, and remaining independent and nonpolitical.
