Today, on November 24, 2014, in Dubai (UAE) the Attorney General of Dubai Essam Eisa Al Humaidan and the President of the International Association of Prosecutors Gerhard Jarosch officially opened the 19th Annual Conference and the General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) on Good Prosecution Practice: Learning from Each Other. The forum is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Conference was attended by more than 500 prosecutors from 156 countries around the world, including the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation headed by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika.
While welcoming participants, the Attorney General of Dubai Essam Eisa Al Humaidan highlighted a number of problematic issues in the work of prosecutors to be discussed in the coming days.
Gerhard Jarosch, President of the IAP, thanked the Attorney General of Dubai for the organization of such an important event for all prosecutorial community, and noted that in the next 4 days representatives of the prosecutor’s offices expected interesting dialogue and exchange of experiences for the consolidation of efforts in the fight against global threats and crime. He wished the conference participants success and fruitful discussion.
The Conference will focus on the use of modern technology to improve the activity of prosecutor’s office, best practices and future development, examples of innovative and effective initiatives, responsibilities and power of prosecutors, cybersecurity and youth criminality. In addition to the thematic speeches there will be seminars on issues including minimization of budget expenditures, realization of the prosecutorial potential and capacity building, especially in the field of computer-related crimes, as well as achievement of better results on the basis of partnership and participation of civil society. Also, the Conference participants will be provided with the UN Guidelines on Drugs and Crime and the IAP Handbook on the Status and Role of Prosecutors.
It is expected that bilateral meetings will be held during the Conference, which will lead to the signing of several agreements and memorandums.
