Today, on September 25, 2014, a meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Zvyagintsev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Konyuk, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbaev, Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic Aida Salyanova, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan Sherkhon Salimzoda, as well as delegations of senior officials of Prosecutor General’s Offices of Russia, Azerbaijan, representatives of the Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS Member Nations.
The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Zvyagintsev thanked the organizers for the warm and friendly welcome and addressed himself to the meeting participants with a greeting on behalf of the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS Member Nations the Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika.
The Russian delegation shared its experience of organizing prosecutorial supervision in the sphere of economy and spoke on other issues including fight against corruption.
The forum participants discussed the supervision over procedural activities of the investigating authorities, summarized the experience of work of the prosecution authorities with representatives of civil society regarding issues of combating torture and other inhuman, cruel or degrading treatment or punishment, and other issues of improving prosecutor's supervision.
In addition, the participants discussed strengthening of cooperation in fight against corruption, supervisory practices in the field of civil rights protection, especially in relation to the citizens staying abroad, in the territories of the CIS member countries, as well as the implementation of international treaties of the CIS Member Nations.
The meeting participants reviewed other relevant issues and took a number of decisions aimed at the development of cooperation and exchange of experience of prosecutorial activity for possible practice in other states.
The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Zvyagintsev, summing up the event, thanked the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan for the excellent organization of the meeting and all the participants for their active and fruitful work.
He expressed confidence that the members of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General in cooperation with the Executive Committee and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations would continue to augment their efforts to seek new forms and methods of their work for enhancing the rule of law in the member countries of the Commonwealth. In addition, Aleksandr Zvyagintsev made a number of concrete proposals for improving the activity of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General.
By the decision of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS Member Nations the Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika was unanimously elected the Chairman again.
The next meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS Member Nations will be held in Astana (Kazakhstan) in 2015.
On the sidelines of the international meeting the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Zvyagintsev held bilateral talks with the leaders of the Prosecutor’s Offices involved in the meeting, at which they discussed topical issues of interdepartmental cooperation.
