It was held a meeting of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Finland

Today in the General Prosecutor's office of Russia it was held a meeting of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Finland Anna-Maja Henriksson.

The meeting was also attended by leading officers of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Finland and the Embassy of Finland in the Russian Federation.

Yury Chayka thanked Anna-Maja Henriksson for the visit and briefed the guests with the functions of organs of the Prosecutor's office of Russia. Referring to international cooperation, he stressed that the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation fruitfully cooperates with the competent authorities of Finland, primarily in the area of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

In her turn Anna-Maja Henriksson thanked Yury Chayka for the opportunity of visiting the General Prosecutor’s office of Russia and discussing the current actual interdepartmental issues.

In the course of the meeting the parties signed a Program of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Finland for the years of 2012-2013. Yury Chayka emphasized that the signing of the Program of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Finland for the next biennium and its realization will allow to increase the efficiency of interaction in this sphere promptly consider emerging issues and find mutually acceptable ways of their solution.

The document provides for conducting joint seminars on legal issues including exchange of experience in the field of rendering legal assistance in criminal cases: fulfilment of requests for confiscation and return of assets, usage of videoconferencing, influencing of the simplification of the visa regime for the provision of international legal assistance in criminal matters.

Moreover, the Program provides for the exchange of departmental and scientific publications as well as methodical materials on the basic directions of activity of bodies and institutions of the Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Finland, including the materials of judicial practice.

In the course of the meeting Yury Chayka underlined the need for further development of bilateral relations which would not only increase the effectiveness of joint work but also strengthen interdepartmental cooperation in the field of protection of citizens' rights and struggling against criminality.

In her turn Anna-Maja Henriksson expressed confidence that the held meeting would contribute to increasing of efficiency of professional ties and development of the dialogue on a wide range of legal issues.
