In the General Prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation it was held a Russian-Norwegian meeting on the issues in the field of extradition and legal assistance in criminal cases

Today, on the 19th of June 2012 in the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation it was held a Russian - Norwegian meeting on problem issues in the sphere of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

 

Carrying out of the mentioned event envisaged by the Programme of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of justice and emergency situations of the Kingdom of Norway and the General Prosecutor's office of the Kingdom of Norway for the years of 2012-2013 which was signed in the city of Moscow in March of this year.

 

The document was signed in order to implement the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of justice and police of the Kingdom of Norway dated April 27, 2010 and the Agreement on cooperation between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the General Prosecutor's office of the Kingdom of Norway dated April 27, 2010.

 

 

The General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation was represented in the meeting by the Deputy Head of the Main Department of international legal cooperation - the Head of Department of Extradition Sergey Verbin and the Deputy Head of Department of international cooperation for particularly important issues of the Main Department of international legal cooperation Vadim Yalovitsky.

 

The foreign delegation was represented by the Deputy and the Advisor of the Director General of the Department for Civil Affairs of the Ministry of justice and emergency situations of Norway Torunn Bolstad and Esben Kihring, a prosecutor of the General Prosecutor's office of Norway Runar Torgersen.

 

Welcoming participants of the meeting, Sergey Verbin has noted that one of the priority directions of the Russian-Norwegian intergovernmental partnership is the interaction of law enforcement bodies in the struggling against criminality, ensuring protection of the rights of citizens, protection of law-and-order and the environment both in the bilateral format as well as within the international organizations. He has stated that the Prosecutor's office of Russia and Norway and the Ministry of justice and emergency situations of Norway carry out active work on the development of interdepartmental cooperation in these directions, including in the issues of interaction in the sphere of criminal justice and in the field of extradition.

 

The representatives of the Norwegian delegation have told about the legislation and practice in respect of requests for legal assistance in criminal cases and in respect of extradition requests.

 

Then the participants of the meeting have exchanged their opinions and also, they have touched upon the practical issues of the main agenda.

 

 

The next meeting of the representatives of the Prosecutor's offices of the two countries in the framework of the Program is scheduled for October 2012 in the city of Oslo. There will be an exchange of views on issues of assignment and execution of alternative types of punishment against underaged offenders, including the use of the Council of conflicts. In April 2013 in the city of Moscow it will take place a «round table» on the subject of detection, suppression and prevention of violations of law in connection with the illegal export and import of seafood, vehicles, smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, weapons and items of cultural value. In September and November 2013 in the city of Oslo it will take place a seminar dedicated to the struggle against offences in the field of fisheries in the Barents and Norwegian seas, and it will be held a meeting with the purpose of exchange of experiences in organization of supervision over observance of the rights and freedoms of citizens under arrest or serving their criminal sentences.

 

The participants of the meeting have noted that further cooperation will be productive and mutually beneficial, and the close interdepartmental cooperation, undoubtedly, increase the efficiency of work in the field of protection of citizens' rights and in the field of struggling against criminality.
