The perpetrator of the attack on a school in Chechnya in 1996, and the woman accused of illegal organization and conduct of gambling activities have been extradited from Belgium to Russia

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Belgium extradited Ali Ozdamirov to Russia. He is accused of the crimes covered by Article 209 (1) (banditry) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Article 162 (4 “a”, “b”, “c”) (robbery) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, in April 1996, Ozdamirov worked as a military instructor at school No. 2, in the village of Geldagon, Kurchaloyevsky district, the Chechen Republic. Aiming to steal the budget funds intended for the payment of salaries to teachers and scholarships to students, he created an organized armed group equipped with AK-74 and AKM Kalashnikov assault rifles, camouflage uniforms and face masks.

On April 24, 1996, the members of the gang launched an armed attack on an educational institution, starting sporadic shooting in the building. The rushed into the headmaster’s office, where 7 other school staff members were also present; the bandits took possession of the package with budget money in the amount of 40 million 600 thousand non-denominated rubles. During the shootout, the headmaster was killed and one of school employees was injured.

After the attack, the gang members fled, disposing of the money at their own discretion.

The competent authorities of Belgium also granted another request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation for the extradition of Ekaterina Kholodkova with the view of her criminal prosecution for illegal organization and conduct of gambling activities, as well as participation in a criminal society (criminal organization).

From August 2015 to August 2019, in the territory of the city of Voronezh, E.Kholodkova, being a member of a criminal society (criminal organization), together with accomplices, illegally organized and conducted gambling activities using gaming equipment outside the prescribed zone. As a result of their actions, the income was generated in the amount of more than 21 million rubles.

Since both citizens fled from law enforcement agencies, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for them and they were added to the international wanted list. At different times they were detained in the territory of the Kingdom of Belgium. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation prepared requests for their extradition.

Owing to efficient interaction between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Belgium it was possible to obtain favourable decisions.

The Federal Penitentiary Service and the NCB of INTERPOL of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia were instructed to receive and transport Ozdamirov and Kholodkova to the Russian Federation, but their actual surrender was several times postponed for various reasons.

Today, Ali Ozdamirov and Ekaterina Kholodkova will be delivered to Moscow, accompanied by a special convoy.
