Spain extradites to Russia an accused in criminal case on illegal turnover of narcotic drugs with the use of Internet

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, handing over of national Dmitry Shcherbakov from the Kingdom of Spain took place.

He is accused of crimes, envisaged by Article 228.1 part 3 paragraph “b” (illegal sale of narcotic drugs, committed with the use of information and telecommunication nets (including Internet), in substantial amount), Article 228 part 2 (illegal acquisition and storage without purpose of sale of narcotic drugs on a large scale), Article 228 part 1 (illegal acquisition and storage without purpose of sale of narcotic drugs in substantial amount), Article 30 part 3, Article 228 part 1 (attempted illegal acquisition and storage without purpose of sale of narcotic drugs in substantial amount, if the crime has not been finalized due to the reasons out of control of that person) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, in October 2018, Mr. Shcherbakov arranged a meeting through Internet and illegally sold narcotic drug, namely cannabis, in substantial amount.

In November 2018, with the use of Internet, he illegally acquired through the hiding-place narcotic drug, namely methadone, on a large scale. The same day he illegally acquired narcotic drug, namely cannabis, in substantial amount and tried to commit another deal.

During the investigation, an indictment against Mr. Shcherbakov was passed, a measure of restriction in the form of detention was selected, and he was declared wanted. At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation he was declared internationally wanted since June 2020.

In connection with the message of the NCB Interpol of Spain on detention of Shcherbakov on the territory of that country in October 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition.

Owing to the well-organized activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and close cooperation with the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain, a positive decision on extradition of the person to the Russian Federation was taken in May 2021.

Today Dmitry Shcherbakov has been handed over to the special convoy officers to be escorted to Russia.
