Lithuania extradited Russian national accused of illegal migration

The Republic of Lithuania extradited Askar Kutbitdinov to Russia upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. He is accused of crimes, envisaged by Article 322.1(2)(a) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of illegal entry of foreigners to the Russian Federation, by an organized group).

According to the investigation, in the period from 2016 to 2017, being in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Kutbitdinov, acting in the composition of an organized group, for monetary remuneration, organized illegal crossing of the State Border of the Russian Federation from the Republic of Kazakhstan for nationals of Uzbekistan ad Tajikistan. Migrants were detained by Border Control officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Kurgan and Tyumen Regions.

In December 2019 the Kurgan City Court selected a measure of restriction in the form of detention in absentia against him. In March 2020, upon instruction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, he was declared internationally wanted. In October 2020 the NCB Interpol of Lithuania informed about detention of Mr. Kutbitdinov in the Vilnius international airport upon his arrival from the Istanbul international airport, and on his arrest on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.

Owing to the organized interaction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with foreign colleagues, positive decision on extradition of the accused was taken in the shortest possible time.

Mr. Kutbitdinov was escorted to Russia.
