Russia extradited to Bulgaria a Moldovan citizen accused of a pawnshop robbery

At the request of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation made a decision to extradite Dmitry Yanakov with the view of his criminal prosecution. He is charged with robbery.

The check established that in July 2019, in the city of Burgas, the Republic of Bulgaria, Yanakov with an accomplice, being in “Stedria” pawnshop, using against the cashier violence that was not dangerous to life and health, stole jewelry on a large scale.

The criminal case is handled by the District Prosecutor's Office of Burgas, Republic of Bulgaria.

At the end of August 2019, the District Prosecutor's Office of Burgas, the Republic of Bulgaria, chose a preventive measure against Yanakov in the form of detention, and in September 2019, a European arrest warrant was issued and he was put on the wanted list.

Yanakov's actions are punishable under Russian criminal law and are covered by Article 161 (3 “b”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, with the use of violence, not dangerous to life or health, on an especially large scale). The statute of limitations for bringing to criminal responsibility under the legislation of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Bulgaria has not expired.

The decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation to extradite Yanakov has entered into legal force, and the Federal Penitentiary Service was instructed to carry out the surrender of the above person.
