Russia extradited to Poland a citizen of Cameroon who had been wanted for fraud with “black money” for more than 10 years

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation considered the request of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland for extradition of a citizen of Cameroon Nane Gilbert for criminal prosecution.

In the course of an extradition check, it was established that the District Prosecutor’s Office in Garwolin of the Republic of Poland was carrying out proceedings in the criminal case against Nane Gilbert accused under Article 286 (1) and Article 294 (1) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Poland.

He is accused of the fact that, in December 2007, in the settlement of Wilga of the Masovian Voivodeship, by previous concert with another person, by deceit, using a fraud with “black money”, he stole money in the sum of more than 101 thousand euro belonging to spouses Stefanyak.

The District Court in Garwolin of the Republic of Poland, on 19 August 2008, applied a measure of restriction in the form of detention, and he was placed in the wanted list.

His actions are punishable under the Russian criminal law and correspond to Article 159 (4) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by a group of persons by previous concert, on an especially large scale). The statute of limitations for criminal prosecution under the laws of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Poland has not expired.

The decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation on extradition of Gilbert entered into legal force on 10 March 2021. The Federal Penitentiary Service was instructed to carry out the handover of the said person.

Today, accompanied by a special convoy, Nane Gilbert was sent to Poland
