As a result of cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Offices of Russia and Belorussia, persons accused of a number of crimes have been extradited

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation proceeds with active cooperation with law-enforcement authorities of foreign countries in combating crime.

Thus, by request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Belarus extradited Mr. Mikhail ZORKIN and Mr. Dmitry SHOLDYSHEV to Russia.

On 18.03.2020, the Petushinsky District Court of the Vladimir Region by its decision found Mr. ZORKIN guilty, in absentia, of the crime, stipulated in Art. 158, part 3 “a” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large-scale theft with home invasion). He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months’ imprisonment in a correctional colony of strict regime.

It was established during the court inquiry that in February 2019, in the village of Vypolzovo, Petushinsky District, Vladimir Region, Mr. ZORKIN entered a house, as well as a cellar and an outhouse and stole property to the amount of almost 100 thousand roubles.

Since Mr. ZORKIN escaped from justice, he was declared wanted.

Following the arrest of the accused in the Republic of Belarus, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation requested his extradition, and the extradition was granted.

At the same time, Russian national Dmitry SHOLDYSHEV was surrendered to the law-enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation.

He is accused of the crimes, stipulated in Art. 158, part 4 “a, b” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft from a bank account, committed by an organized group, in especially large amount) and in Art. 210, part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (leading a division of a criminal association (criminal organization)).

Moreover, by the requests of the Belorussian party, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation granted extradition of four fugitives, namely, Mr. Mikhail MAMOJKO, Mr. Aleksandr BAKUNOVICH, Mr. Aleksandr KAPITONOV, Mr. Aleksandr KISELEVICH to Belorussia with the purpose of their criminal prosecution. The above persons are accused of theft, intentional someone else’s property destruction, housing fraud and evasion of preventive supervision.

The above decisions were made owing to fruitful and effective cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus.

The surrender of fugitives was carried out in the Smolensk Region in compliance with necessary security measures given the epidemiologic situation.
