  Text

The Argentine Republic extradited Columbian national, Edgar Alejandro Valero Valero, to Russia upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

He is accused of a crime, envisaged by Article 158(4)(b) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft, that is the secret stealing of other person’s property, by a group of persons by previous concert, on especially large scale).

Under the investigation, in July 2018, in the city of Kazan, in exhibition hall Kazanskaya Yarmarka, Mr. Valero and his accomplices stole a suitcase from the Seven Diamonds jewelry company employee, containing jewelry at the sum of 160 million rubles. Afterwards he fled from a scene of crime by car, and disposed of the stolen items at his own discretion.

On 28.09.2018, the Vakhitov District Court of the city of Kazan of the Republic of Tatarstan selected a measure of restriction in the form of detention, and he was declared wanted.

In September 2019 he was detained in the territory of the Argentine Republic, and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition to the competent authorities of the Argentine Republic.

The extradition process was multi-staged and competitive, and during the period from 2019 to 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation repeatedly sent additional materials and evidence.

Owing to efficient actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and well-organized close interaction with the competent authorities of Argentine, in September 2020 positive decision on his extradition was taken. Officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and Russian Bureau of Interpol escorted Mr. Edgar Alejandro Valero Valero to Moscow.
