Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor KRASNOV visited the Republic of Azerbaijan

On April 8, 2021, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor KRASNOV came to Baku for an official visit by invitation of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran ALIYEV.

Within the framework of the visit the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor KRASNOV was received by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham ALIYEV.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet, the head of the Russian prosecutor’s office highly assessed the bilateral prosecutorial cooperation, describing the relationship between the prosecutor’s offices of Russia and Azerbaijan as a constructive partnership.

Igor KRASNOV especially noted that the prosecutors of Russia and Azerbaijan, within the framework of their powers, are actively involved in the implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Among the priority areas of such interaction are humanitarian issues, uniting efforts to restore the rights of persons affected by the hostilities, providing them with assistance, taking measures to prevent the growth of crime in the region and combating transnational criminal manifestations, the Russian Prosecutor General emphasized. He expressed confidence that with the participation of the prosecutor’s office, it would be possible to restore law and order in the region, to ensure a calm and safe life for the population.

Igor KRASNOV confirmed the interest in further development of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in judicial sphere.

During the visit to Baku, a meeting was also held between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor KRASNOV and Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran ALIYEV.

This is the second meeting of the heads of supervisory agencies this year. In January, Mr. ALIYEV visited Moscow, where he took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 299th anniversary of the Russian prosecution service, and the trilateral Russia-Azerbaijani-Armenian meeting.

The parties discussed various aspects of bilateral interaction, the prospects for holding joint events on the most pressing issues of prosecutorial activities and signed a Declaration of intent to develop cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In addition to the previously concluded agreements, this document provides for the possibility of advanced training of Russian and Azerbaijani prosecutors.

Igor KRASNOV invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to take part in the Conference of Heads of Prosecutor’s Offices of European States, which will be held in Saint Petersburg in July this year.

Within the framework of the meeting, Igor KRASNOV and Kamran ALIYEV took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the grave of Heydar ALIYEV on the Alley of Honor in Baku, as well as at the “Mass Grave” Memorial Complex, which was created after Azerbaijan gained independence. 1462 soldiers are buried on the territory of the memorial complex, who died during the Great Patriotic War in Baku hospitals. Among the buried there are representatives of various nationalities. On May 9, solemn events are held at the memorial, as well as the “Immortal Regiment” international actions.
