An entrepreneur charged with the commission of stealing of 1.2 billion rubles from MOESK PJSC extradited to Russia from Spain

Pursuant to a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain are extraditing Mr. Vladimir Kovalenko to Russia. He is being indicted for the commission of a criminal offence provided for in Article 159 paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale).

As per the investigation, Mr. Kovalenko, as part of a criminal group, stole 1.2 billion rubles from Moscow United Electric Grid Company (MOESK) PJSC.

After committing the crime, he fled from the law enforcement authorities and was put into the wanted list.

In the summer of 2016, his whereabouts was established in Spain. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation twice sent requests to the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Spain pertaining to the extradition of the accused.

The extradition of Mr. Kovalenko to Russia was achieved thanks to the close cooperation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia with the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain.

Today, accompanied by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of INTERPOL Mr. Vladimir Kovalenko will be transferred to Moscow.
