During his working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan Igor Krasnov, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, has held a series of meetings with his foreign colleagues

Igor Krasnov held bilateral negotiations with Gizat Nurdauletov, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He thanked his Kazakh partner for the warm reception and hospitality in respect of the Russian delegation, and noted the importance of close coordination of work against modern challenges posed a threat to citizens of both respective States. In particular, he proposed to mobilize joint efforts to protect minors mainly from the negative effect of the Internet, which was becoming a platform for the widest range of crimes that did not have state borders. Igor Krasnov called manifestations of extremism in Russia and Kazakhstan as another urgent threat, especially taking into account the recent political events in Afghanistan, contributing to a real threat of entering radical individuals into the CIS territory.

During the meeting with Alexandr Stoianoglo, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova, the subject of discussion was not only the dangers of the growth of cybercrime and attempts to disseminate extremist ideas, but also the fight against corruption threats. Igor Krasnov stressed that the prosecutors of Russia and Moldova would be able to discuss these and other topical issues thoroughly within the framework of the implementation of cooperation programme, which would start in the near future.

The certain issues of bilateral cooperation, modern threats and the need to exchange experience in countering new schemes of the commission of cross-border crimes, including cyberattacks and widespread ransomware viruses, as well as suppressing the criminal use of cryptocurrency and other virtual assets were discussed during the meeting with Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Interstate coordination of the efforts of prosecutors pertaining to countering modern challenges was the main topic of the meeting with Cheol-Kyu Hwang, President of the International Association of Prosecutors. Igor Krasnov highlighted the fight against cybercrime, including the criminal turnover of cryptocurrency, the negative effect on youth, involvement in destructive associations, among the issues of concern to the entire world community, and emphasized the need for prosecutors to develop common approaches to preventing the development of such negative trends. Falsification of medical and pharmaceutical products, laundering of criminal proceeds, withdrawal of criminal assets abroad, including to the offshore jurisdictions, were discussed as other topical issues the settlement of which was possible only by virtue of joint efforts.

The trilateral meeting of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation with Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Artur Davtyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, became the culminating meeting. In the course of the meeting Igor Krasnov noted the effectiveness of the trilateral format and advised on the significant results of the work done by the parties to strengthen the rule of law in Nagorno-Karabakh and the stabilization of human life hoods over the past 9 months. The prevention of escalation of tension among the population of the region as a whole was pointed out by the Russian Prosecutor General as the main task.

He called for more intensive use of the opportunity to approach the Russian military prosecutors stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh as a channel for information exchange, including the transmission of signals regarding violations committed, as well as for continued work on the return of citizens to their homeland.

Igor Krasnov thanked his colleagues from Azerbaijan and Armenia for the constructive interaction and focus on a common result that was the achievement of peace and stability for the benefit of the peoples of the region. A positive level of interaction in the field of a search for missing persons was noted.

During the event, the parties agreed to continue the search.

The meeting participants discussed the implementation of the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia and the prospects for further legal cooperation.

The Prosecutors General of Azerbaijan and Armenia thanked their Russian counterpart for the efforts pertaining to the implementation of the humanitarian aspects of the trilateral statement of the leaders of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia dated November 10, 2020.

The parties reaffirmed the previously reached agreement regarding the need to intensify contacts in order to prevent further tension.
