  Text

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation competent authorities of the Republic of Poland extradited Shakhin Namazov to Russia. He was found guilty of a crime, envisaged by Article 264 part 4 (violation by a person driving a car in the state of alcoholic intoxication of traffic rules which resulted in the careless death of a person) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He was sentenced to 5 years of deprivation of liberty with serving the sentence in the settlement colony.

The court established that in summer 2016 Mr. Namazov, driving a transport vehicle in the state of alcoholic intoxication, in violation of traffic rules, made a sudden turn to the left from the side of the road, having blocked the roadway on 767 km of the Caspian M6 highway and bumped into another vehicle, moving in the same direction. Driver of that vehicle was found aggravated party in criminal case, and his spouse, who was in the vehicle at the moment of the car accident, passed away as the result of injuries inflicted by the accident.

Since Mr. Namazov fled from the law enforcement authorities, upon order of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation he was declared internationally wanted. Moreover, a measure of restriction in the form of detention for transportation under convoy to the settlement colony was passed in absentia.

This April he was detained in the Republic of Poland.

After that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a corresponding request for extradition for making him criminally responsible and execution of the sentence.

Owing to the coordinated activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation a successful decision on extradition of the fugitive to Russia was taken.

Today special convoy has escorted Shakhin Namazov to Russia.
