A citizen of the Russian Federation accused of the occupation of the highest position in a criminal hierarchy is being extradited from Portugal to Russia

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation the competent authorities of Portugal are extraditing a citizen of the Russian Federation Mr Stepan Furman.

He is charged with a crime provided for in Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (occupation of the highest position in a criminal hierarchy).

According to the investigators, having obtained a criminal rank of a «thief-in-law» since 1994 Mr Furman has been occupied the highest position in a criminal hierarchy and led a criminal organization. Being members of the criminal organization, participants of a group have committed serious and especially serious crimes in the territory of the Murmansk region.

As Mr Furman had fled from justice, he was declared wanted.

In June 2021 in view of his whereabouts established in the territory of Portugal the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent to the competent authorities of the state a request for extradition of the accused.

Thanks to the close cooperation with foreign colleagues the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation succeeded in achieving a decision on his extradition.

Mr Stepan Furman will be brought to Moscow convoyed by officers of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service and the Russian Bureau of Interpol.
