Citizen, committed monetary funds stealing, was convicted owing to cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Offices of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia

Resolution of the Urvansky District Court of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, with due account to appellate ruling of the judicial board on criminal matters of the Supreme Court of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic and cassation ruling of the Fifth Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction, found Alan Nakhushev guilty of crimes envisaged by Article 159(3)(4) (fraud) and Article 158 (3)(c) (theft) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He was imposed punishment in the form of five years of deprivation of liberty with serving the sentence in a correctional colony of general regime.

It was established that in Abkhazia Mr. Nakhushev, by fraudulent actions, committed stealing of property of a victim on especially large scale. Also, being in Russia, he entered the premises and stole property of another victim.

Criminal case was investigated by the competent authorities of the Republic of Abkhazia. In 2019, after his Russian citizenship and whereabouts in Russia had been established, criminal case materials together with a request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Abkhazia for criminal prosecution were handed over to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. It was done in accordance with the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia for Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters of 28.05.2015.

The conviction is an example of successful cooperation between Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Abkhazia.
