Person accused of holding the supreme position in a criminal hierarchy and extortion has been extradited from Egypt to Russia

Today, thanks to coordinated actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and close cooperation with the competent authorities of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. David GERLIANI, born in 1972, has been extradited to Russia.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted a request for his extradition to the Ministry of Justice of Egypt with the purpose to prosecute the fugitive for the crimes stipulated in Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (holding the supreme position in a criminal hierarchy) and Article 163, part 3 “a, b” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion).

According to the investigation, in 2014, GERLIANI was acknowledged to be a person holding the supreme position in a criminal hierarchy; a zone of criminal influence was allotted to him in entities of penitentiary system located in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, the Moscow, Smolensk, Ulyanovsk and Leningrad Regions.

In the above entities GERLIANI appointed so called “polozhenets” and “thieves in law” from those in custody, who were under his full patronage and performed different tasks following the practices of criminal world.

Moreover, GERLIANI created and headed a criminal group, whose members extorted with threats 15 million roubles from a citizen.

Since actual whereabouts of GERLIANI was unknown, an arrest warrant was issued against him and he was placed on the international wanted list. After his arrest in March 2022, in Egypt, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation prepared required extradition documents.

Today GERLIANI has been brought to Russia.
