International cooperation in combating corruption

The Interstate Council for Combating Corruption and the CIS Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units signed a Cooperation Agreement

Today, on December 8, 2017, Mr. Yury Chaika, Chairman of the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, and Mr. Yury Chikhanchin, Chairman of the CIS Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units, Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, have signed the Agreement on cooperation between the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption and the CIS Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units. The signing took place in the premises of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation at 14 Petrovka Street.

Mr. Aleksandr Rusetsky, Head of the Secretariat of the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption, Head of the Department of Supervision over Observance of Anti-Corruption Law of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Mr. Pavel Livadny, Head of the Secretariat of the CIS Council of FIU Heads, Deputy Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, and officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation attended the event.

Now, Mr. Yury Chaika, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, is the Chairman of the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption, founded by the Heads of the CIS Member-States in 2013. On September, 27, 2017, the authorities were delegated to him during the regular meeting of the Council in Kazan. There were also approved drafted agreements on cooperation with CIS branch bodies, including the CIS Council of FIU Heads.

As the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation noted in his speech, the purpose of the Agreement is collaboration in combating corruption, money laundering, financing of terrorism, as well as in other spheres of mutual interest.

Moreover, the Agreement provides for information and experience sharing, exchange of laws and other normative acts of the CIS Member States, papers on practice of their observance, rendering consultative assistance.

Mr. Yury Chaika drew attention of the participants to the symbolism of the fact that the signing of the Agreement took place on the threshold of the International Anti-Corruption Day – December 9, 2017.

In conclusion, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed his confidence that joining efforts will allow combating corruption more efficiently.
