International cooperation in combating corruption

Russia-Cyprus anticorruption round table has been held at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation

Today, on February 17, 2020, in Moscow, Russian-Cypriot round table has been held on the theme: “Activity of prosecution agencies in countering corruption in economics and in state structures”.

The round table was organized within the framework of the Program of Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus for 2019-2020.

The following persons took part in the event: Mr. Aleksandr BUKSMAN, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Mr. Aleksandr RUSETSKY, Head of the Department for Supervision of Compliance with the Anticorruption Legislation, Mr. Aslan YUSUFOV, Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision of Compliance with the Anticorruption Legislation, as well as representatives of the General Department of International Legal Cooperation and the General Department for Personnel of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

The Cypriot delegation was headed by Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus Costas CLERIDES. He was accompanied by Ms. Elena KLEOPA, Head of the Criminal Law Section of the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms. Polina Efthivoulou Efthimiou, Senior Counsel of the Republic, Ms. Michaela Pasiardis and Mr. Andreas Aristides, Counsels of the Republic, as well as Ms. Georgia Constantinou, Investigator of MOKAS (Unit for Combating Money Laundering).

The parties exchanged opinions on problems of organization of prosecution supervision of compliance with anticorruption legislation, combating corruption manifestations in private and public sectors, financial sphere and public service.

Issues of legal and organizational aspects of the practice of law enforcement and the development of legislation on combating corruption, international aspects of countering corruption related offences were discussed, as well as actual aspects of cooperation with competent authorities of foreign states in corruption matters, including as regards extradition of persons.

As a result of the meeting the parties have agreed to continue efficient cooperation within the framework of implementation of the Russia-Cyprus Cooperation Program.
