Welcoming his foreign colleague, the Prosecutor General of Russia noted that cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Cambodia continues to expand in various areas, including political, economic, military, and cultural spheres. Bilateral contacts in the sphere of justice are also on the rise. Igor Krasnov emphasized that the Russian Prosecutor's Office is vested with broad supervisory, coordinating, and human rights powers, many of which are comparable with the competence of the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia.
"There are indeed many points of contact. All of them are reflected in the updated draft Memorandum of Understanding, which we will sign today. It also takes into account the existing experience of interaction between the two agencies," the Prosecutor General of Russia said. - The document will strengthen the legal basis for joint work in the field of countering cross-border criminal threats, will facilitate a more intensive exchange of best practices, and the convergence of our positions on international platforms."
Considering that the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia is the central authority for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition, there are also great prospects for improving bilateral contacts on this track, noted Igor Krasnov.
The Prosecutor General of Russia announced the readiness of the supervisory agency for an in-depth partnership with the Kingdom on other issues, including those related to legal support for investment projects, ensuring the rights of tourists, and exchanging experience in modernizing legislation.
"Of particular interest is the topic of digitalization of justice and law enforcement - from the implementation of departmental information systems to the use of neural networks," noted Igor Krasnov. "We have developments in this area, and we are ready to share them."
As a next step after signing the Memorandum, the Prosecutor General of Russia proposed considering the issue of preparing a program of specific events that would allow focusing efforts on the most important areas of work, noting that this format is practiced with the competent authorities of many states and has proven its effectiveness.
"New horizons of cooperation are opening up for us, we are ready to expand them, to interact on any issues of mutual interest. We are absolutely open to dialogue," said Igor Krasnov.
At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Cambodia, according to which the parties undertake to strive to achieve practical results in the fight against crime, protection of human rights and freedoms.
Background: The Ministry of Justice of Cambodia is the central competent authority in the field of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
