- The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation
A delegation from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela arrived in Russia at the invitation of Igor Krasnov to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Today, on the eve of this event, a meeting of the heads of the two supervisory agencies was held within the walls of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
Welcoming Tarek William Saab, Igor Krasnov thanked him for the visit, noting that this year Russia and Venezuela celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "As President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro emphasized, interstate relations between the two countries have reached the level of strategic partnership. Contacts are actively developing on the widest range of issues based on the principles of mutual respect and trust," said the head of the Russian supervisory agency.
He pointed out that "our country appreciates Venezuela's position on the issue of preserving historical justice about the role of the Soviet Union in the victory over fascism. A striking confirmation of the consistently firm position on this issue was the opening of a monument in Caracas in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the lighting of an eternal flame in memory of the fallen heroes".
During the meeting, Igor Krasnov noted that the role of supervisory authorities in ensuring the rule of law in the business sector, including in the process of creating an attractive investment climate, will be discussed in detail within the framework of the thematic session organized by the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia at the SPIEF.
He also noted the gradual increase in cooperation between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries, which was facilitated by the previously signed agreement that laid the necessary legal framework.
"I am glad that you supported my proposal to prepare a Cooperation Program, which provides for the exchange of practices in the use of digital technologies in supervisory activities, combating corruption, terrorism, extremism, as well as holding joint training events," the Russian Prosecutor General said.
According to him, expanding cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere is of particular importance. Igor Krasnov announced the readiness to host colleagues from Venezuela at the University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for advanced training and students for higher education.
In conclusion, Igor Krasnov expressed confidence that deepening cooperation between the prosecutor's offices serves as a significant aspect for the overall strengthening of the partnership between Russia and Venezuela. After that, the parties signed a Cooperation Program.
Background: This is not the first meeting of the heads of the supervisory agencies of Russia and Venezuela. In 2024, they contacted three times: in April during Igor Krasnov's first visit to Caracas (a Cooperation Agreement was signed), in June in Moscow, and in August via videoconference, the heads of the prosecutor's offices discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation.
