Today at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov held a working meeting with the Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Burkhanov.

Welcoming his colleague, the head of the Russian Prosecutor's Office noted the similarity of views and approaches of the two countries to solving primary tasks in the field of countering corruption. He recalled that the special allied nature of relations between Russia and Uzbekistan has been repeatedly emphasized by the Presidents of both countries, Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

At the beginning of the meeting, Igor Krasnov announced the signing of a document providing for the coordination of joint actions at various international platforms, including at the next Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which will be held in December 2025 in Doha. The Prosecutor General of Russia expressed confidence that there are great prospects on this track.

“Russia has passed both cycles of review of compliance with the UN Convention against Corruption, in connection with which the issue of the future of this mechanism is particularly relevant for us and is now being actively discussed at the Vienna venue,” the Prosecutor General of Russia said, proposing to join forces in order to prevent it from becoming an instrument of political pressure.

Igor Krasnov emphasized that he expects Uzbekistan to join as a full member of the Interstate Council on Combating Corruption. “I hope for your participation in the new status already at the next meeting of the Council, which will take place at the end of this year in Armenia,” the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation added.

Akmal Burkhanov said that he reported on this initiative to the country’s leadership and gratefully accepted the invitation, noting that the relevant procedure had already begun.

The Prosecutor General of Russia also spoke about the annual holding of the International Youth Competition of Social Anti-Corruption Advertising “Together against Corruption!”, calling the involvement of young people in anti-corruption activities an important stage of preventive work. Igor Krasnov invited Akmal Burkhanov to join the international jury of the competition.

In conclusion, the Prosecutor General of Russia thanked Akmal Burkhanov for the open and trusting dialogue, after which the parties signed the Protocol of Cooperation.
