During the meeting, the Prosecutor General of Russia noted that the partnership between the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates has been based on a solid foundation of mutual respect, trust and common strategic interests for many years. This approach is regularly emphasized by the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during their personal meetings.

"The Russian Prosecutor General's Office maintains close cooperation with the UAE justice and law enforcement agencies," said Mr. Igor Krasnov. "This is due, among other things, to the wide range of international associations and organizations in which our representatives participate, including Interpol, various UN structures, BRICS, the Group of Twenty, and many others."

The head of the Russian supervisory agency reported on an agreement concluded today with the Attorney-General of the UAE Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, to create a working group to combat crime and protect the rights of citizens.

"In turn, we are actively engaged in dialogue with your agency as the central authority for extradition and mutual legal assistance on many practical issues," Mr. Igor Krasnov emphasized. "At the same time, for a number of years, there has been a certain difficulty with the different interpretation of the provisions of the treaties between our countries on mutual legal assistance in criminal cases and extradition. As a result, certain requests are sometimes refused."

The Prosecutor General of Russia expressed confidence that it would be possible to overcome these inconsistencies through regular consultations between representatives of the agencies. It was proposed to hold the first such meeting in Russia in June of the current year, and then to develop a mechanism for holding them on a regular basis.

“This working format will allow, in addition to resolving specific cases, to ensure prompt exchange of information, and ultimately increase the effectiveness of joint efforts in the fight against crime and the protection of the legitimate interests of citizens of both countries,” said the head of the Russian supervisory agency.

In conclusion, the Prosecutor General of Russia thanked his foreign colleague for the trusting dialogue. "I hope for its further continuation in a constructive manner," said Igor Krasnov. "I take this opportunity to invite you to visit Russia at any convenient time."

For information: Mr. Igor Krasnov's first official meeting with the UAE Minister of Justice H.E. Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi took place during the Russian Prosecutor General's first visit to the United Arab Emirates in 2021.

At that time, the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates already had treaties on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and on extradition. The documents were concluded in November 2014 between the UAE Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia "on the sidelines" of the 19th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors in Dubai.
