At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Mongolia are extraditing Sodnom Budatarov to face criminal charges under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
According to the investigation, between September and December 2023, Budatarov, CEO and founder of Wasteconsulting LLC, together with the heads of two other commercial organizations, embezzled budget funds allocated for the elimination of unauthorized waste disposal on the territory of the Tunkinsky National Park as a subsidy within the framework of the national "Ecology" project under the "Preservation of Lake Baikal" federal project. Funds in the amount of more than 94 million rubles were stolen by inflating the cost of the work actually performed.
Since the accused had fled from law enforcement agencies, a preventive measure in the form of detention was imposed upon him, and on April 17, 2025, he was put on the international wanted list.
The extradition request was sent in connection with identifying Budatarov’s whereabouts on the territory of Mongolia - he was detained on May 28, 2025.
Thanks to close cooperation with foreign colleagues, a decision was made on his extradition.
The accused will be taken to Ulan-Ude accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
