Russia extradited a defendant accused of committing a particularly serious crime to the Republic of Latvia
  Text

The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia has satisfied the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Latvia to extradite a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Khurshid Sharapatov, for criminal prosecution. The criminal case against him is being handled by the Riga Eastern Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Latvia.

According to the documents submitted, in April 2021, in Riga, a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sharapatov, committed violent acts against a minor.

On October 31, 2023, the Riga City Court of the Republic of Latvia declared him an international fugitive. On July 18, 2024, the accused was arrested in Moscow. Sharapatov's actions are punishable under Russian criminal law.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office received a request for his extradition. Despite the unconstructive approach to anti-criminal cooperation chosen by the Latvian side, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office made a decision on extradition, which entered into legal force.
