The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic has approved the indictment in the criminal case against 25-year-old citizen of the United States of America Andrus Michael James Danganan. He has been charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).
According to the investigation, in August 2023, Danganan arrived in Ukraine, signed a contract and joined the "Chosen Company” unit forming part of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, underwent military training on the territory of training bases, mastered the necessary skills to participate in an armed conflict, and was provided with personal firearms. After that, as a mercenary until December 2023, he had been taking part in military operations against servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as a result of which for these actions on the territory of the DPR he received material compensation in the amount of more than 455 thousand rubles.
Danganan has been placed on the international wanted list, and the court has imposed upon him in absentia a preventive measure in the form of detention.
The criminal case has been sent to the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic for its consideration on the merits.
