The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic sentenced Swedish mercenary in absentia

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic has sentenced  47-year-old citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden Kjell Mikael Skillt in absentia. He has been found guilty under Article 359 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict), Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (infringement on life of serviceman in order to impede the legitimate activities of the said person to protect public order and ensure public safety, and out of revenge for such activities).

The court has established that from May 2014 to November 2015 Skillt served as a mercenary in the Ukrainian paramilitary nationalist association “Azov” (terrorist organization banned in Russia) and participated in military operations on the Ukrainian side at various points of battle contact.

In June 2014 during the scalade of the buildings of the Priazovskyi State University and the bank located on Grecheskaya street in Maruipol, he murdered militiaman of the Donetsk People’s Republic and left the combat zone after that.

In March 2022 Skillt returned to armed conflict zone as a mercenary as part of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he served till March 2023.

He received the reward for the said activity to the amount which is equivalent to more than 1.4 million rubles.

Taking into consideration the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Skillt in absentia to 25 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime correctional colony.
